About Behind the Book:
Behind the Book is a literacy non-profit that serves students in Title l NYC public schools. Working with classrooms from Pre-K-12, Behind the Book identifies books that reflect the lives of our students and partners with teachers to create immersive curriculum units. Through a series of workshops, authors discuss their book and teach a genre of writing, encouraging students to see themselves as readers and writers and ultimately guiding them in the creation and publication of their own original writing.

Program Intern Description:
Behind the Book seeks program interns to assist with the design, implementation and administration of our programs. The Program Intern will work closely with the Program Manager, Program Admin, and Director of Programs to support all aspects of our school programs.

The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, eager to learn, and able to manage tasks independently. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required as are strong computer skills in Microsoft Office. An interest in literacy or previous tutoring experience a plus.

Program Intern Responsibilities will include:

●      Assisting in managing program logistics and administration

●        Supporting the Program Management team and organization with projects connected to curriculum, data management, capacity building, etc.

●        Working with students in classrooms, as needed

●        Assisting with management of the Behind the Book library

●        Assisting with student book publication as needed

●        Assist in creating videos to support learning

The position will be based in our Harlem office. The commitment is for summer is June-August, September-December for fall, and January-May for spring.
