About Behind the Book:
Behind the Book is a literacy non-profit that serves students in Title l NYC public schools. Working with classrooms from Pre-K-12, Behind the Book identifies books that reflect the lives of our students and partners with teachers to create immersive curriculum units. Through a series of workshops, authors discuss their book and teach a genre of writing, encouraging students to see themselves as readers and writers and ultimately guiding them in the creation and publication of their own original writing.

Executive Director Intern Description:
Behind the Book seeks an intern to assist the Executive Director (ED) with fundraising, and administrative tasks. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in learning about the Inner workings of a nonprofit.

ED intern will work closely with the ED to support all aspects of the organization including fundraising and administration. The commitment is for two days a week for one semester, and hours are flexible. The position will be based in our Harlem office.

The successful candidate will be someone who wants to learn about nonprofits from all sides, is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and able to manage tasks independently. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required as are strong computer skills in Microsoft Office.

ED Intern Responsibilities will Include:

  • Assisting with fundraising initiatives

  • Research

  • Supporting ED with logistics and administration

  • Assisting at meetings and events
