Marketing & Development Intern

We have two, 3-month internships available: fall/winter from October 1st - Jan 12 and spring from March 1 - May 31.


Marketing and Development Intern Description:
Behind the Book seeks a fundraising intern to assist with the organization’s events, promotions, and admin tasks related to fundraising and marketing. The position is ideal for a go-getter with excellent communication skills, who wants to be an integral part of growing Behind the Book’s donor base and public profile. The position will be based at our Harlem office. The commitment is for three months, ten hours per week, with some flexibility.

The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, eager to learn, and able to manage tasks independently. They will also have experience using social media and creating engaging posts and content. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required. The intern will report to the Director of Development.

Interns are paid $15/hour.

Intern Responsibilities will Include:

  • Assisting with preparation for fundraising events

  • Assisting with donor communications, including thank you letters

  • Research new funding opportunities

  • Drafting social media updates for Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn

  • Drafting content to promote fundraising events on Behind the Book’s website and in our newsletter

  • Profiling and thanking donors and volunteers on Behind the Book’s website and in our newsletter

  • Other duties as assigned
